St NicholasTwo special December festivals have given us a sense of the beauty, joy and reverence for life and many of you helped to make them live in the hearts of our children. In this lovely season of Festivals of Light, the Winter Garden of Light started with a glow from a candle at the center of an evergreen spiral decorated with shells, pine cones, crystals, holly, and feathers honoring the nature’s kingdoms of minerals, plants, animals and human beings. As each child lit their candle and placed it on a star along the pathway, the room glowed with golden light while the room was filled with gentle harp music. Many parents, teachers and families experienced the lovely quiet mood held there and saw the beauty of the softly lit spiral.

On December 6th, St. Nicholas came from afar and brought bag of treats that his feisty grey donkey had been carrying and visited the children to bring them special messages. Upon entering the room after greeting each teacher, he handed his tall golden staff to his assistant and took his golden book from her. Some children heard the messages St. Nicholas read out of his golden book and others enjoyed a song he sang to each child in the class. He left a bag of treats with the teacher or paused to put treats in the shoes or boots that had been polished and cleaned and left by the classroom door. St. Nicholas’ visit was well loved.

We are grateful to the children, teachers, and staff who prepared the way for these festivals and to the many helpers who came forward to work. We appreciate the gifts of time and donated items given by these people: Angie Alkove, Pat Beatie, Misty Blanton, Joanne Crum, Jason Hartman, Kimberly Johnston, and Yadira Martinez.
