Our outdoor program allows students to experience the natural world, understand the value of teamwork, and build self-confidence.
From daily walks in the kindergarten to gardening in the grade school and hiking trips in the middle school, our outdoor program offers students a multitude of opportunities to discover and appreciate the natural world and develop enthusiasm for physical challenges and accomplishments.
As with all subjects taught at Three Cedars Waldorf School, outdoor education is integrated in the curriculum: kindergarten children discover on their walk the apples so coveted by the hero of their story-telling time, while 5th grade students will pause on their hike to draw flowers for their botany main lesson, and 7th graders observe stars in their astronomy block.
Over the years our students participate in different adventure trips and encounter progressively more challenging situations. We highlight the concepts of problem solving, decision making, and cause and effect. For instance, what’s the consequence of not wearing a rain jacket? How does one person’s decision affect the rest of the group?
